As we welcome the warmth of the summer season, we are eager to see familiar faces and new visitors enjoying the natural beauty of Grant PUD’s recreation sites. With the arrival of June 1, it’s crucial that we all remember our responsibility to preserve and protect these precious environments for everyone to enjoy – today and for generations to come.

We have a burn ban that runs from June 1 to September 30 at all of Grant PUD’s recreation sites. This decision is rooted in our commitment to maintain the safety and sustainability of our cherished sites. The threat of wildfires during the summer season is something we cannot ignore.

We understand that for many, campfires are a beloved part of the camping experience. But don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! While traditional campfires won’t be part of your summer escapades at Grant PUD sites this year from June 1 to September 30, you can still savor those scrumptious s’mores and hot dogs over a gas or propane stove.

Gas and propane stoves are a fantastic alternative, offering a safer, cleaner, and more controlled way to cook outdoors. With these stoves, you can enjoy your favorite camping meals while minimizing the risk of sparking a wildfire.

Here are a few safety tips when using gas or propane stoves:

  1. Site Selection: Always set up your stove on a flat, stable surface away from flammable materials like dry grass, leaves, or other combustibles. Avoid enclosed areas and ensure there is ample open space around your stove.
  2. Check Your Equipment: Before starting your stove, inspect all parts to make sure they are in good working order. Look for any damage, leaks, or wear and tear that might create safety issues.
  3. Control the Flame: Keep your flame at a manageable level. It should only be as large as needed to cook your food and should never be left unattended.
  4. Emergency Preparedness: Have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of water nearby at all times. Knowing how to quickly extinguish a flame is essential.
  5. Proper Disposal: Dispose of propane canisters and other waste properly. Leave no trace behind and maintain the pristine beauty of our sites.
  6. Respect Burn Ban Guidelines: Ignoring burn ban rules not only puts you and others at risk, but it could lead to hefty fines. Compliance is key for everyone’s safety.

We hope that these tips help to keep your summer recreation safe, enjoyable, and sustainable. We thank you in advance for your understanding and cooperation with our burn ban. This effort is not just about maintaining the safety and beauty of our sites, but it’s also about caring for each other.

Grant PUD is looking forward to a fun and fire-safe summer season. Let’s respect our environment, keep safety a priority, and create unforgettable memories.
